I've been rearranging some stuff in my room due to the recent renovating that started while I was at The Well's Refresh Retreat the weekend before last, and I came across this poem I wrote when I was seventeen, and studying Language Arts Through British Literature, including poetry, for my junior/senior year of high school. Add to this not terribly shocking discovery my recent promise to post a new blog soon, and I give you, without further ado:
The WolvesThey sing! They dance! With regal stanceThey run through woods so stillAnd prance and playAnd still they stayRulers of the wooded hillsOver hill and over daleThey follow prey whose scent is staleTill suddenly, a scout, she howls--Her voice is tautThe scent is caught!Their only competition owlsThe hunt is silentThe kill is violentThe chase a wondrous thrillThe pups all droolBut know the ruleNo food till Father's had his fillThe pack moves onAnd though the sunIs strong, the wind is bitter coldTheir camp they pickTheir coats are thickAll are warm, even the oldThe snow is whiteThe night is brightOverhead the moon is fullThe stars the glitterA small child shiversEven from town he hears the call--A scout has foundA thing profound--A lame and wounded moose aloneThe pack moves outThe cubs they poutThey're left behind with just some bonesAnd a sentinelTheir stomachs rumbleIt's past time for a fresh-caught feastThe hunting slowBecause the snowHas made grass rare to say the leastThe elk and deerAnd the moose queerFaced with a dilemma realSearch on for foodChased on by doomTo find or to become a mealAlas! the wolvesWho ruled these woods(Like royalty on high they reigned!)Rule them no moreAnd from them were tornBy Man, over whom he let Fear reign
"And that's all I have to say about that." Aptly put, Forrest (teehee! No pun intended).
If you like the books you list on your profile, then perhaps I can suggest one more to try. "Outcasts Of Skagaray" might appeal if you like Frank Peretti and C.S.Lewis. For excerpts, please see www.threeswans.com.au and look over the sample chapters. I would love it if you read it but in any event, greetings in the Lord. My blog is http://threeswans.blogspot.com Feel free to comment.
